Keeping the Lionism Spirit Alive


TAMAN MELAKA RAYA: Lions Club of Melaka Raya (LCMR) has vowed to keep the Lionism Spirit very much alive as the members get involved in a number of community-based programs in the fiscal year of 2008/2009. More needy and poor will receive aid and assistance to provide them a better and caring lifestyle.

Past District Governor (PDG) 308 B1 Lion Ng Kim Leng in installing the 3rd LCMR President Lion Ong Chun Whey and its Board of Directors (BOD) said that he felt very happy and proud to have witnessed the birth of this club two year ago and has now grown

 

very quickly putting the club on a strong footing and ready to take off anytime. He strongly believed that under the new leadership of Lion Ong Chun Whey, this young club will have no doubt in pursuing the purposes and code of ethics of Lions Club International. He is also confident that the Club will strive on to achieve greater heights in the coming year in terms of community services that will benefit the Melaka community at large.

Zone 12 Chairman Lion Ng Aik Beng from the Lions Club of Melaka in inducting ten new members namely Koh Wei Shiarn, Carolyn Lau, Stephanie Goh Chien Yi, Emily Tan, Alvin Tang You Seng, Jack Hee Yee Yaw, Ben Low Hong Kuang, Louis Khor, Andrew Yong Fun Choon and Shaun Koh Cher Shen to the LCMR reminded them that to fulfill the club’s fine tradition of community service for the under-privileged and needy and keep the Lionism Spirit burning strong.

Lion Ong Chun Whey in his maiden speech as the new President thanked his predecessors in particularly Immediate Past President Lion Steven Koh Kim Soon and his BOD for a job well done. He vowed to carry on his good work to keep up the good name and image of the new club.

Past Council Chairman /Global Membership Team Lion Datuk Dr K.Nagaratnam conveyed the Lions Clubs International President Lion Albert F.Brandel congratulatory message to the new club installation and awarded special pins to some of the senior and new members including the two charming ladies Carolyn Lau and Emily Tan who were emcees for the night as an appreciation from Lions Clubs International.

Two Chinese Primary Schools namely Siang Ling and Pay Fong III each received RM1000 worth of library books courtesy of the Club Guiding Lion Steven Lee Kee Hock. The Bukit Baru Mentally Handicapped Children Centre and Orphanage, the Salvation Army Melaka and a young kidney patient Chong Voon Lin each received RM1000. An immediate passing of the hat around collected over a thousand ringgit for Chong Voon Lin.

Present to grace the lovely evening at the Lucky Famous Chinese Restaurant included LCMR Guiding Lion Lye Soo Kong, Chairman Organizing Committee LCMR Lion Jason Yow Seng Leng (1st Vice President), Honorary Lion Khoo Yoke Piak, Lion Stanley Seet Ah Kiang (Secretary), Lion Chua Seak Peng (2nd Vice President), Lion Ong Chong Ming (3rd Vice President), Koh Jenn Han (Treasruer), Ku Pohh (Tail Twister), Ee Yew Seng (Tamer), Joseph Toh Han Guan (Membership Director), Lion Sashekala Pathmanathan from Lions Club of Ayer Keroh, Lion Dignitaries from the various invited clubs from near and far.
