He said it is hope that by using this method, in which policemen will advise errant motorists, will help to reduce the number of road fatalities by educating road users on how to behave while on the road.
"Apart from that, the operation this time around will also be carried out in a more intergrated manner, in which policemen from other departments like the general staff, Criminal Investigation Department and others will also be lending their hand.
"The Ops Sikap this time around will not only be focussed on reducing accidents and road fatalities during the Chinese New Year festivity but will also be geared towards reducing crime," he added.
He told reporters this after officiating the Melaka Tengah police headquarters' Ops Sikap XXI operation along Jalan Merdeka here.
During the launch, Salehhudin also took the opportunity to distribute Chinese New Year goodies and brochures on road safety to road users who ply along Jalan Merdeka.
Meanwhile, Salehhudin said police had identified eight stretches of road in the Melaka Tengah district as accident-prone areas.
These areas are Lebuh AMJ between the Serkam and Tiang Dua Umbai traffic light, Lebuh AMJ along Lee Rubber and Lorong Pandan traffic light, Jalan Datuk Mohd Zen/Pasar Borong, Jalan Mufti Haji Khalil to Baru Berendam, between the junctions of Kampung Bertam Hulu and Sungai Udang along Lebuh SAS, Jalan Tanjong Kling-Sungai Udang, Jalan Alai-Telok Mas and Lebuh Tun Razak.
According to Salehhudin, apart from the other locations in the district, police will be placing more emphasis on these eight locations as police statistics showed that they are accident prone.
"We have identified several wrong-doings on the part of errant drivers which include overspeeding, driving carelessly and overtaking along the emergency lane," he added.
